We are pleased to announce that the first two vessels of Briese Schiffahrt’s brand new OTECO 9000 fleet have been successfully delivered. The ECO TITAN and ECO TRUST are the first of ten brand new Open-Top Eco Generation general cargo vessels being built for Briese Schiffahrt at the Dayang Offshore Shipyard in China. Part of the OTECO 9000 series is co-owned by Swiss investors.
The OTECO 9000 is 133 meters long and 19 meters wide, with a smaller beam of only 18 meters at the waterline. The superstructure is arranged on the foredeck, allowing the entire open deck area of more than 2,000 m2 to be used for stowage of deck cargo. The large cargo hold, with a length of about 85 meters in the lower hold and 97 in the upper hold, can be flexibly subdivided into several compartments by the use of tween deck panels and/or grain bulkheads.
The vessels represent state of the art shipbuilding with a “Modern Eco Design for the Future” and are a further development of the OTECO 5000 vessels in the company’s fleet. The design features have been proven and are guaranteed to ensure excellent reliability while being fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.
What is so special about this new Short Sea Fleet?
The OTECO 9000 vessels represent state of the art shipbuilding with a “Modern Eco Design for the Future” and are an evolution of the existing OTECO 5000 vessels in the company’s fleet. The design features are proven and guarantee excellent reliability while being fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. The advanced technical concept allows for more fuel efficient operation while maintaining high service speed and meeting the highest international environmental “Green Ship” standards.
Focus on wind power transportation
Briese Schiffahrt’s fleet now transports the majority of the world’s windmills. The OTECO 9000 has been built with future requirements in mind and therefore has the capacity to transport the next generation of windmills with even larger blades (> 107 m).
All these features allow Briese Schiffahrt to continue to lead the market for the transportation of wind turbines, which is particularly advantageous given the expected exponential growth in demand for wind turbines over the next decade.
